Glossary of Terms

(used on this web site)

Antique Print ... a genuine old print, published at the time stated, not a later reprint or reproduction of an old print.

Cicely Mary Barker ... (1895-1973) the English Artist most famous for her series of "Flower Fairies" pictures, to which this site is dedicated; from 1922-1955 she produced 178 different flower fairy pictures.

Flower Fairies ... name given in the 1920s to the fashionable and popular pictures of fairies named after flowers, Margaret Tarrant started the trend and C M Barker embraced it wholeheartedly.

Good Condition ... we only sell prints that we consider to be in good condition, by this we mean - the prints are clear and bright not at all fuzzy or out of register, they are not stained or creased and have no damage. There may be a very slight yellowing due to age of the white border around the print, but not so that it detracts from the overall look, additionally there may be a very occasional printers speck (which occured during the printing process) this would never be more than 1mm or 1/32inch accross and again would not detract from the overall look of the print.

Matting/Mount ... the board that the print is presented in (if the matting option is taken) ... we use ph.neutral (eg. acid free) mountboard and paper(ph.neutral) lined backing board, which is off white in color (universal color code 043)

Original Print ... a genuine old print, published at the time stated, not a later reprint or reproduction of an old print.
